The Causes of Condensation in an Air Conditioning System.
An air conditioner performs several different tasks at the same time. As it draws the hot air out of the house, it passes it through a cooling coil, vents the hot air outside, and restores fresh air into the home. This requires several different devices working together on the same system. The fans take in air and blow it out once it has been purified.
Other components extract the humidity from the air so that it does not damage the internal cooling mechanism, and a series of delicate coils extract the heat from the air and release it to the outside. Finally, a system of drainage ducts is responsible for removing accumulated moisture and dirt.
Leaks and condensation.
One of the first things that air conditioners do with the air they take in is to extract moisture from it using evaporation coils, which attract water vapor to condense inside the unit. The humidity is then evacuated through drainage ducts. If condensation appears on the outside of the appliance, it is probably due to the large temperature difference that exists between some of its components. Cold air can also condense moisture outside the conditioner and create moisture build-up.
Inside the appliance, once the air is dry, there should be no condensation. Moisture build-up inside the air conditioner can be evidence of a faulty drainage system and is a common problem. The evaporation coil often draws out impurities and moisture; otherwise, dust may accumulate near or inside the drain pipes, which can cause blockages. A clogged drainage system can cause leaks; this is a serious problem and should be fixed promptly.
Solutions.
Regular maintenance of the appliance should prevent water loss. Also, an air conditioner in good condition must circulate the air quickly and not allow large condensation inside or outside the system. If leaks occur, then it will be necessary to carefully open and clean the inside of the conditioner, especially the drain part.
If no losses occur and, on the contrary, there is a very large condensation on the external side of the appliance, then the problem may be in the evaporation or cooling coils. In this case, it’s advisable to contact a professional. Also, make sure to put plants, dirt, and fabrics away from the air conditioner intakes to prevent clogging.
